Description:
-Colour : brown, mottled white, grey and rust.
-Size:34 cm
-Beak:long, about 7 cm, it has a straight, smooth, sensitive point which helps it to feel the vibrations of its prey in the soil.
-Feet: short and robust.

Reproduction: It lays two to four eggs in the nest on the ground. She sits on them for three weeks.

Diet :It finds its food under ground (larvae, insects).

Habitat :It lives in woods.

Migration: It stays in Northern Europe and the cold regions of Asia; at the beginning of winter, it migrates across Southern Europe into India and China.In Italy,in general it comes twice a year, (in Spring and Autumn) .They go in pairs when they migrate.

Conservation : not protected. It is hunted.

Lifespan:12 years.

Call or song :It is noisy during the mating season;a large part of the noise is a continuous whine.
